Bethesda dropped the fattest stink bomb the gaming industry has seen in a decade

Blizzard put two shots in the back of Diablo’s head

Sony not doing E3, necking Japanese devs

Microsoft hasn’t been relevant in gaming since the XBone’s subpar release

Meanwhile Nintendo is fucking drowning in Switch success because they actually know how to, y’know, make video games.

Who knew Nintendos strategy of ‘Just, like, make game’ would be the winner?

remember last week when nintendo sued a family for $12million for pirating games that have been out of print for decades

such heroic saviors of videogames

Also “Just, like, make game” was their strategy with the Wii U. Which was a commercial failure. Their strategy with the Switch is “Just, like, re-release game we made and charge 60 dollars for it”

I think their devs put out some great games and they’re the last big bastion of japanese game design but everyone gives them way too much goodwill, some of the shit they pull as a publisher and console maker would not fly anywhere else. And this narrative that they’re always “just making good games!” is inaccurate and contributes to them continuing to do really not at all fair things and not get challenged on them because they have near-infinite goodwill.

nintendo has a lot of really fantastic IPs under its belt, and a lot of classic games with a shit ton of nostalgia and the near-infinite goodwill you’re mentioning stems largely from those factors as well as their general refusal to go the ‘gritty realism sells’ that a lot of mainstream series on ps/xbox go, opting more for their well-known fantasy look & feel

however as it stands even as someone who is incredibly fond of gaming experiences nintendo has brought me, their actual business practices and their often boneheaded release/distribution garbage are both shitty and greedy and should rightly be criticized, on top of the whole emulation fiasco which is just upsetting

It’s always been so weird to me how the response to drug addicted homeless people is to just let them die outside from quitting cold turkey on the cold hard concrete while being stared at by snobby ass hats cuz “oh that’s what they get for choosing to do drugs” or what ever the fuck

depriving homeless addicts wont magically make them not addicted to drugs.

It’s a whole obsession in this gross ass western society with punishing marginalized poor people and “”teaching them a lesson””

i know ive talked about this before but we literally have no reason not to bring the original gay flag made in the 70s by gilbert baker back to regular use!

the pink stripe was simply taken away because pink fabric was too expensive to mass reproduce at the time, and the turquoise stripe was taken away for a really odd reason: for the harvey milk remembrance parade in 1979, they wanted three stripes on each side of the street and didn’t want it to be asymmetrical, so they did away with the turquoise stripe. like, they could have fixed it in some other way without removing a whole stripe, but eh whatever history’s history.

the pink originally symbolized sex and the turquoise was for magic/art and it would just be really cool if we could bring both the stripes back into regular use again since there wasn’t any significance behind the removal of the stripes and we’re perfectly capable of mass producing flags with all the stripes again!

i am going to eat every single cop in new zealand

for context, the auckland pride board decided to ban police marching in the pride parade while in uniform, and in response, the police and several sponsors have pulled out of auckland pride. in response, the auckland pride board has not backed down, and has turned to crowdfunding to support pride this year, but the movement has caused other cities to show their support for police officers in uniform, like wellington.

this article also outlines stats around police brutality in new zealand

the response of the police has been childish and comparable to throwing a tantrum because something isn’t actually about you. fun fact!!! the purpose of pride and the lgbt community is actually not about being “inclusive of everyone”, it’s purpose is entirely and exclusively about protecting the rights of gay and trans people!! if police feel threatened by that, then maybe they should do some deeper thinking into why they feel so entitled to be welcomed and accepted by a minority group that has historically been targeted by police!!

oh one more thing!!!

auckland pride is considering ditching corporate funding entirely so here is their donation page!!!

pride being seperate from police and from corporations is how it should be, and if auckland can prove that they can make it work, hopefully wellington and many other cities can follow suit!!!

Our friends and comrades in Wellington have pointed out that the Wellington Pride Parade scabs announced that they love the pigs without any community consultation, and so they’ve put together an open letter demanding that the people have a say in this

I also want to point out that the fundraising for Auckland Pride isn’t being organised by Pride itself, but by a coalition of organisations and ordinary people opposed to the racist, transphobic pigs marching in Pride. This is important because Auckland’s reactionary gay middle class has sided with the cops and is going to try to roll the Pride board next week in a special general meeting. The fundraising being organised by outsiders means that, even in the likely event that Pride ends up being organised by the corporate vampires who are currently boycotting it over the ban on police uniforms, all of the money will still go towards organising a pride for the people. Please donate if you can, and help us demonstrate that pride doesn’t belong to the state or the rich.
